MEA Drilling Interactive Technology Workshop Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates |
The MEA Drilling Interactive Technology Workshop took place on the 24th to 27th
of February 2008 and was hosted by Praxis Global Research. The workshop was held
at Le Meridien Hotel in Abu Dhabi and covered a variety of special topics on drilling
technologies, challenges and solutions; as well as an introductory discussion panel
addressing the human resource, recruitment and personnel development challenges
facing the oil industry.
Based on Weatherford’s heavy involvement in the development of the program and sponsorship
of the delegate material and audio visual equipment, Praxis Global Research board
decided to upgrade their package to the Valued Gold Sponsor which reflected the
company’s support to the Oil & Gas industry in the region and beyond. The Chairman
of the event was Adel Shaya, Drilling Specialist from ADNOC, along with Co-chairman
Mohammed Qutob, General Manager – Weatherford Abu Dhabi. Furthermore, the event's
Technical Steering Committee comprised of several distinguished oil & gas industry
professionals including Weatherford's Hani Qutob, Principal Advisor - Reservoir
Engineering, Robert Kuchinski, Formation Evaluation Business Development Manager;
and Shereen Hussein, Personnel Development Coordinator - Technical Sales and Engineering.
Weatherford also contributed heavily towards the technical program through presentations
and workshops. Robert Kuchinski delivered a presentation titled "“Understanding the
Risks involved in Understanding Formation Properties”, which addressed the critical
need for having sufficient understanding of formation properties in order to have
successful well completion and reservoir production. Shereen Hussein’s presentation
during the introductory discussion panel was titled “Help them Grow or Watch them
Go!” and focused on the necessity to develop both technical and personal skills
in employees in order to improve retention and tackle the inevitable shortage of
experienced employees in the coming years. Also, a Master Class on Controlled Pressure
Drilling® and Reservoir Characterization was instructed by Hani Qutob and introduced
some key techniques for productivity improvement and drilling performance.
The event proved to be a huge success due to the overwhelmingly positive response
from all participants. The overall feedback was that the program was very well organized
and each participant learned much during the four days they spent in the program
and are taking back new technology ideas and solutions to their respective teams.
